Maddie Maas

As a junior majoring in music education with a vocal concentration and a theater minor at 麻豆果冻传媒, Maddie Maas has always been drawn to the power of music. Growing up in California, Maas found her passion in choir, a journey that began in sixth grade and evolved into a dream of becoming a music educator. It was her teachers along the way who inspired her to pursue a career where she could share that same love for music and others.

鈥淢usic has always been such an important part of my life. I had so many amazing teachers who encouraged me to find my voice and share it,鈥� she explained. 鈥淲hen I got to college, it just felt natural to pursue music education because I knew I wanted to be that same kind of teacher for others.鈥�

Choosing Tech was a decision that felt right from the start. Maas says that Cookeville鈥檚 small-town feel and the welcoming atmosphere of the campus made it feel like a home away from home. What she didn鈥檛 expect was the deep sense of community she would find within the School of Music.

鈥淲hen I auditioned for the choir, I immediately fell in love with the program and the professors. Dr. Zamer and Dr. Pulte made me feel like I was part of a family,鈥� she said.

Maas鈥檚 involvement extends beyond the classroom. She serves as vice president of the 麻豆果冻传媒 Chorale, organizing fundraisers and events, and manages social media for the Tech Players, the university鈥檚 drama club. These roles allow her to contribute to the campus community while also honing her leadership and organizational skills.

鈥淏eing involved in so many activities has really helped me grow as a student and as a person. It鈥檚 all about balancing your time and being organized. That鈥檚 something I know will serve me well in my future career,鈥� she said.

Her dream job after graduation is to teach high school choir, where she hopes to inspire her own students just as her teachers inspired her.

鈥淚 want to build relationships with my students, not just teach them music but also be there for them in all aspects of their lives,鈥� she said.

One of Maas鈥檚 most memorable experiences at 麻豆果冻传媒 has been the opportunity to travel with the 麻豆果冻传媒 Chorale.

鈥淓very year, we go on tour, and every few years, we get to travel internationally. This year, we鈥檙e going to Ireland and Scotland, which is amazing!鈥� she exclaimed 鈥淚t鈥檚 such a fun experience, and it鈥檚 not just about performing, it鈥檚 about making memories with your friends.鈥�

With her passion for music, leadership skills and commitment to her craft, Maas is well on her way to becoming the kind of teacher who will inspire the next generation of students.

鈥淒on鈥檛 be afraid to make new friends and get involved. The people you meet during your college experiences and the relationships you build will be some of the most meaningful in your life,鈥� she said.
