麻豆果冻传媒 the Trumpet Studio

The 麻豆果冻传媒 Trumpet Studio is an active and vibrant collection of hard-working students striving for the common goal of improvement and growth. Led by Dr. Scott Hagarty, the studio provides students with many opportunities to learn and grow with individual and ensemble performances, work with guest artist clinicians, teaching opportunities, traveling to conferences and festivals, and leadership experiences in our student trumpet club, the TTU Trumpet Guild.

Students graduating from the trumpet studio have found success in a variety of career paths in the music field from music education (K-12 and higher education), performance, live audio, composition, and others. Our goal is for every student who graduates from the trumpet studio to either find employment in the music field, or continue on to pursue graduate study.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ensembles are available to trumpet majors?

Depending on the semester, trumpet students can participate in the Marching Band, Jazz Bands, University Orchestra, Chamber Winds, Trumpet Ensemble, Symphony or Concert Band, the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, and the Golden Eagle Brass Basketball Pep Band.

Do I have to audition for any of the ensembles above?

Yes. Ensemble auditions are held for each of the large ensembles, and some of them can be competitive. In the trumpet ensemble, parts are assigned based on ability level.

What kind of music does the trumpet ensemble perform?

The trumpet ensemble performs a large variety of classical, jazz, and popular music from a wide range of musical style periods including the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, and contemporary styles. Depending on the size of the ensemble, we frequently deploy a variety of instruments for students to try like the piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn, C trumpet, and even the bass trumpet on occasion.

How do I register for a music scholarship audition?

Please visit our Music Scholarship Audition page to register for a music scholarship audition. It lists all the audition dates and more specific details.

Can non-music majors audition for a music scholarship on trumpet?

Yes! The highest dollar awards are reserved for music majors, but talented non-music majors are also eligible to receive scholarship money.

What books and repertoire will I use at 麻豆果冻传媒?

Most incoming freshman will start in books like the Arban Complete Conservatory Method and the Clarke Technical Studies to build fundamentals and technique. Freshman also typically utilize the Wurm 40 Studies and Voxman Selected Studies etude books for developing musicianship. We use a wide variety of solo repertoire that is tailored to the skills and interests of each individual student. Check out the page at Hickey鈥檚 Music Center for a shopping list of typical trumpet books we use in the studio.
