Welcome to the workshops at the Appalachian Center for Craft

The Appalachian Center for Craft offers hands-on workshops on our campus nestled in the woods on Center Hill Lake in Smithville, Tennessee. Participants may find workshops for a variety of skill levels in blacksmithing, clay, fibers, glass, metals and wood. Workshops are accessible to those who want to learn an entirely new skill as well as those who want to refine their existing skills. Artists from across the country and our own campus lead workshops in our professionally equipped studios throughout the year.

Join us in the hot shop and experience the joy of glassblowing! Participants will work one-on-one with an instructor, who will assist them through the process of creating their own holiday ornament. Each session is approximately 30 minutes. Ornaments will be ready for pickup at the Craft Center on December 7, or participants can have them shipped for a small fee. Must be 14+. Minors (under 18) must have an adult present during the workshop.

Various times

Most of a metalsmith鈥檚 work happens without a torch. In this workshop, students will be introduced to the fundamental principles of cold connections in metalsmithing, and learn how to join metal without soldering or fusing. We will develop the skills of sawing, filing, texturing, annealing, and riveting to ultimately create a pendant or ring. Our discussions will center on the precision, forms and kinetics possible with these techniques. Must be 18+

9am - noon or 2 - 5pm

Create a beautiful ceramics tray, the perfect homemade gift for a loved one or yourself, just in time for holiday gatherings! Participants will work with the slab roller, textured mats and slump molds to create trays of any shape or size. Each student will have time to make 2-3 trays. Work will stay at ACC to be glazed and fired and will be ready for pickup on December 7. Must be 18+

9am - noon or 2 - 5pm
