While Malory Heidelberg of Jackson, Tennessee, was earning her bachelor鈥檚 degree, she was also working as an administrative assistant at an electrical company. She originally wanted to become a dentist but two years into her undergraduate degree, she realized she wanted to change to dental hygiene. And that choice let her to yet another realization.

鈥淎fter the decision to change my career path, I knew I wanted to achieve my master鈥檚,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 loved my administration job, but my passion is and was healthcare. I knew I needed to pursue both my loves.鈥�

Once she received her bachelor鈥檚, she started researching master鈥檚 programs in Tennessee that would let her take classes remotely so she would be able to keep her full-time job. She decided on the Master of Professional Studies degree program with a concentration in healthcare administration at 麻豆果冻传媒.

鈥淢y first love is dental hygiene,鈥� Heidelberg said. 鈥淚 love my patients and the reward of caring for my community. Tech allows me to continue working full-time while pursuing my degree. Every faculty member is so accommodating and easy to approach.鈥�

Once she has earned her master鈥檚, Heidelberg plans to use her newfound skills in healthcare administration to be able to work both as a hygienist and also in administrative work either in a hospital or with an insurance company. 

鈥淎lthough I love treating my patients, I am very interested in the insurance process and having an impact on the dental community,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 would love to use my background in dental with my knowledge and skills I receive through my master鈥檚 to make positive changes in the healthcare field.鈥�

The Master of Professional Studies degree program with a concentration in healthcare administration provides professionals with the opportunity to develop skills in healthcare, leadership, informatics, research and administration in the healthcare industry, including hospitals, nursing homes, group medical practices, personal care homes, retirement centers, health maintenance organizations, medical sales and insurance companies.

鈥淐ompleting a remote program takes a lot of drive and focus. It is 100% achievable when you have amazing faculty like the ones at Tech,鈥� Heidelberg said.

鈥淚f you consider any master program remotely, choose a university that will support the students and their success,鈥� she added. 鈥淥ut of all the universities I have attended, Tech has allowed me to feel like my work matters. I am proud to be completing my degree at Tech.鈥�
