Compensation
Whether you’re a new employee or have been at Tech for many years, the compensation program is designed to attract, motivate, and retain a well-qualified, diverse workforce. One of HR’s main objectives is to support the mission of the university in providing leadership and outstanding programs that benefit the people of Tennessee. To do this, Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ offers a competitive compensation package, recognizes and rewards individual initiative and achievement, all while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Position Reviews
Position reviews are appropriate only when a position's job duties have been significantly and permanently changed      using the following criteria:
- Institutional Impact - Nature and scope of influence the position has on its area(s) of responsibility and the level of autonomy.
- Innovation and Complexity - Degree to which the position needs to identify and devise solutions to problems and the level of autonomy to make decisions.
- Communication and Influence - Describes the nature of communication the position is responsible for, and the level of influence required.
- Leadership & Talent Management - Responsibility for people development, including supervision, training, coaching and performance management.
- Knowledge, Skills & Experience Needed - Level of expertise required to fulfill position responsibilities; incorporates minimum levels of formal education, skills, and/or work experience.
- Financial/Budget Responsibilities – The level of responsibility, accountability, and authority for financial matters, including budget management, reporting/analytics, procurement, and compliance.
- Transfer of a vacant position to a position with new and permanent responsibilities.
A position review is an assessment of the actual job responsibilities that can result in either: 1) a change to the position description, or 2) a change in classification without a pay grade adjustment, or 3) a change in classification with a pay grade adjustment. A request that is equivalent to a salary increase that does not meet the criteria described above will not be approved.

New Hire Salary Ranges
The starting salary ranges for Administrative and Clerical & Support new hires are determined by considering:
- Established pay grade and range for the position
- Relevant education and experience of applicant as compared to the minimum qualifications
Degree Attainment Raises
Employees who have been employed at Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ for at least one year and obtain a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree (above their current degree status) are eligible for an increase based on the degree type.
To obtain this increase, please notify your supervisor. Your supervisor will submit a PAF for the change. The employee will request for official transcripts to be sent to Human Resources from the educational institution directly. Once the PAF is approved and the transcripts are received, the increase will be effective the following month.
