Scholarships and Awards
Prospective and current 麻豆果冻传媒 students: It is very important that you complete the University鈥檚 Scholarship Application each year before December 15 in order to be eligible for any scholarship or award given by 麻豆果冻传媒 for the following academic year, including the ones listed below. For example, if you plan to attend 麻豆果冻传媒 beginning Fall 2023, you need to complete the Scholarship Application by December 15, 2022. So even if you鈥檙e not 100% sure that you鈥檙e coming to Tech, you need to go ahead and apply for admission to the University, and then, once you are admitted, apply for 麻豆果冻传媒 scholarships.
You will also need to submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each year during your college career. Please go to Financial Aid for more information.
Below are the scholarships that are awarded primarily to FL majors. Keep in mind that you there are many other scholarships offered through 麻豆果冻传媒 for which you may qualify. You just need to complete the one 麻豆果冻传媒 scholarship application to be eligible for all of them!
Scholarships Regularly Awarded to FL Majors
- 禄 The Faculty & Alumni Scholarship
This small, one-time scholarship is awarded each year to a Foreign Language major chosen by our faculty, based on college GPA and other academic accomplishments. Students must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA to be considered for this award.
This scholarship is funded by DFL faculty, both active and retired, and our graduates from years past. It is administered by the Department.
- 禄 The Wilbur Raatz Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded each year to incoming freshmen and transfer students who have declared a French, German or Spanish major and who meet certain minimum qualifications. Amounts vary. The College of Arts and Sciences administers this scholarship, and recipients are chosen by Department of Foreign Languages faculty.
- 禄 The Marshall and Thelma G. Bertram Liberal Arts Scholarship
This annual scholarship rotates between the Departments of Foreign Languages, History and English; each Department awards it once every three years. It will next be awarded to a Foreign Languages major for the 2021-2022 academic year. It is usually given to an upper-division (junior or senior) major.
This scholarship is administered by the College of Arts and Sciences.
- 禄 The Alberta Campana Memorial Scholarship
This small, one-time scholarship is awarded each year to a Foreign Language major chosen by our faculty, based on college GPA and other academic accomplishments. Students must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA to be considered for this award.
This scholarship was established in memory of the mother of long-time German professor and chair of 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 Department of Foreign Languages, Dr. Phillip Campana. It is administered by the Department.
- 禄 The Fredrick Heina Memorial Scholarship
This small, one-time scholarship is awarded each year to a Foreign Language major chosen by our faculty, based on college GPA and other academic accomplishments. Students must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA to be considered for this award.
This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Fredrick Heina, who taught German at 麻豆果冻传媒 for many years. It is administered by the Department of Foreign Languages.
External Scholarship & Internship Opportunities
- 禄 Alpha Mu Gamma Scholarships
Scholarship opportunities are available through the National Scholarship Committee of Alpha Mu Gamma, on a competitive basis. All FULL MEMBERS (undergraduates & graduates) of Alpha Mu Gamma are eligible to apply. The scholarships must be used for continued study of a foreign language and may be applied to study at any accredited academic institution.
Awards Include:
$1,000 Goddard, Indovina & Krakowski Scholarship. [3 awards are available].
$500 James Fonseca Scholarship for the study of Spanish or Esperanto.
$500 Sister Eloise-Th茅r茅se Scholarship for the study of languages other than Spanish or Esperanto.

- 禄 Gilman Scholarship
The U.S. Department of State鈥檚 Gilman International Scholarship Program broadens the U.S. student population that studies and interns abroad by providing scholarships to outstanding who, due to financial constraints, might not otherwise participate. Since the program鈥檚 establishment in 2001, over 1,300 U.S. institutions have sent over 30,000 Gilman Scholars to 151 countries around the globe. Recipients are awarded up to $5,000 or $8,000 for the Gilman Critical Need Language Award. Funds are used toward the costs of study abroad or international internship programs.

- 禄 Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS)
The Virtual Student Federal Service is the world's longest-running remote internship program! Since 2009, more than 10,000 U.S. citizen college students have worked on projects for more than 70 federal agencies during their academic year.
Students develop apps, design graphics, manage social media, conduct research, and more. The time commitment is about 10 hours per week from September through May. These internships are unpaid.
