Homecoming 2019: Grand Marshal
Vice president of Student Affairs and Chief Diversity Officer Marc Burnett to serve as grand marshal of Tech鈥檚 homecoming parade
Vice president of Student Affairs and Chief Diversity Officer Marc Burnett has been involved with 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 homecoming since 1977鈥攆irst as a student and then as an administrator. He鈥檚 had the opportunity to view homecoming festivities, including the parade and game, from many different perspectives and for the last 29 years, has been responsible for the parade鈥檚 production. At Tech鈥檚 89th Homecoming on November 9, 2019, Burnett will have the most unique perspective of all.
鈥淚 consider being selected as grand marshal in my final semester here quite an honor,鈥 said Burnett. 鈥淚鈥檝e always simply wanted to help students and be a good ambassador for my university, and I think being grand marshal is somewhat synonymous with an ambassador.鈥
Burnett graduated from Tech in 1982 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in English-Journalism. He also earned two graduate degrees from Tech: a master鈥檚 in educational psychology and an educational specialist degree in administration and supervision. As the lead administrator in student affairs, he has worked with students, faculty, and staff to create and maintain student development and has overseen policies and programs within the Division of Student Affairs. He recently announced his intent to retire in December after nearly four decades of service to the University.
Tech鈥檚 2019 homecoming parade begins at 10:30 a.m. along Dixie Avenue, and this year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淎 Jukebox Homecoming.鈥 Tailgate activities will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the homecoming game against Jacksonville State at 1:30 p.m.
鈥淗omecoming has always been an amazing event to me,鈥 said Burnett. 鈥淚n many ways, it鈥檚 like receiving a surprise package every single year. You never really know who鈥檚 coming, and I鈥檝e always anxiously awaited the arrival of friends and family who attend. Reliving Tech through the eyes of those who remember you is priceless.鈥
Burnett will be in the tailgate park in the West Stadium lot in front of Hooper Eblen Center from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and all alumni and friends are invited to visit.
