Scholarships

 

Scholarships are an excellent way to fund your study abroad experience. If you currently receive a scholarship you may be able to apply it to your study abroad program. In addition, there are a number of scholarship opportunities expressly for students intending to study abroad. Many of our partner universities offer scholarships in addition to the ones listed here (Korea and Japan).

  • Study Abroad Application for Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Airfare Reimbursement Award/Deadline: Award covers cost of airfare up to $1,000 Deadline: October 15th for Spring; March 15th for Summer and Fall
    Location: Worldwide
    Notes: Applicable for full-time Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ students with 2.5 GPA in good standing and have at least Sophomore status.
  • Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ William Brinker Study Abroad Scholarship Award/Deadline: Up to $1000 studying abroad for at least one semester- December 15th on ScholarWeb
    Location: Worldwide
    Notes: Must be an Arts and Sciences Major (preference is given to History Majors), must be a Junior or Senior, must have a 3.0 GPA, must be accepted into a study abroad program through the Center for Global Experiences.
  • Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ College of Business Experiential Learning Grant: Grants are awarded throughout the academic year based on the nature of the request and the availability of funds. There are restrictions, but all students are encouraged to apply. 
  • - To support and increase the accessibility of international education opportunities for all students, the Asia Institute, through the One Yuan One Dream Foundation, is co-developing multiple scholarship programs, which are open to students studying in Asia and the United States.
  • - Provide funding for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad up to $25,000. 
  • The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan.  Assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Applications are accepted twice a year.

  • British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association: Each year BUTEX awards sixteen scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year.
    Eight scholarships are available to UK students studying abroad in the USA or Canada and a further eight scholarships are available to North American students studying in the UK
  • (German Academic Exchange Service)Award/Deadline: From $2,000 to cost of the program. Deadline: January 31
    Location: Germany
    Notes: Full-Time undergraduate and graduate students from most academic fields
  • Freeman-ASIA accepts applications from U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level at a two-year or four-year college or university who demonstrate financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Award provides need-based funding to assist the recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related expenses, including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc.

    Notes: There are several different Fulbright programs for graduating seniors, graduate students, alumni, faculty, administrators, and teachers.
  • (US-Ireland Alliance)Award/Deadline: Tuition, housing, a $12,000 living expenses stipend, and international travel. Deadline: October 10
    Location: Ireland
    Notes: With 12 awards made each year, the scholarship provides a year of graduate study at any university in Ireland or Northern Ireland. Applicants must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 who will have an undergraduate degree when starting study with the Mitchell Scholarship (graduating seniors are encouraged to apply).
  • - Award: Up to $5,000
    Location: Worldwide
    Notes: Interested in studying abroad virtually or in-person? Receive up to $5,000 (or $8,000 if you’re studying a Critical Need Language) to go abroad on an in-person or virtual program as a college student if you’re a U.S. citizen and Federal Pell Grant recipient!
  • - Award: $1,000
    Location: U.S.
    Notes: This scholarship is awarded to the student who has the best understanding of the importance of language learning and its place in society. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded directly to the student and can be used for tuition, books, language classes, etc.

  • - Award/Deadline: Undergraduate: Summer (Engineer and Applied Science Majors only) $2,500--$8,000; Semester $4,000--$10,000; Academic Year $6,000--$20,000. Deadline: February 14
    Location: Africa; Cent. and Eastern Europe; Near East; Asia; Latin Am. Caribbean
    Notes: U.S. citizen; undergrad or grad student; Study for Sem. or Year (or Summer for applied science and eng. majors). NSEP recipients are required to seek employ. with a federal agency or office involved in national security affairs upon graduation.

  • You are eligible to apply if you meet ALL of the following:
    You attend an institution with an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter;
    You have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale. We do NOT round-up - meaning a 3.74 GPA does not qualify;
    Your study abroad program begins between May 1-31
    You have applied to or been accepted into an accredited study abroad program before the session deadline and provide a letter of acceptance or a letter confirming your application, on official letterhead, as part of your application.
  • - Award/Deadline: Award usually covers the entire cost of the trip. Deadline: Varies, contact local Rotary Club for more information. Often 1 1/2 years in advance.
    Location: Worldwide
    Notes: Largest U.S. scholarship program for study abroad. Funding for high school, undergraduates, graduates, alumni, and professionals.
  • Award: Up to the full cost of attendance
    Location: U.S. and Japan
    Notes: The Toshizo Watanabe Endowed Scholarship Fund/Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to undergraduates/graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad program in either the United States or Japan.
  • - $500 scholarship for one semester, U.S. Citizen, 3.0 GPA.

    Location: Worldwide
    Notes: Open to students who are participating in ISEP study abroad programs.
  • - Dr. Marvin Swanson Semester Abroad Scholarship-  Award: $500 (one for the fall semester/academic year and one for the spring semester) Criteria:  Must be a student in good standing at a U.S. Magellan Exchange partner institution, hold a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be able to demonstrate a financial need. 
    • Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (Dornbirn, Austria)
      Non-European students who study abroad at a University of Applied Sciences in Austria, like Vorarlberg, may apply for an Ernst Mach Grant for the fall 2016 semester and/or spring 2017 semester. These grants are available to master-level students as well as to bachelor-level students who have completed at least 4 semesters of study. Due to the grant deadline, the Magellan application must be completed early in order to be eligible to apply for the grant. For more information, click here and refer to the "Academics" tab
    • Anyang University (Anyang, South Korea)For spring 2016, Anyang University will offer 8 Magellan students a scholarship that provides an airport pick-up, airfare reimbursement up to 600,000 KRW (approximately $900), and a weekly stipend of 150,000 KRW (approximately $135/100€) for 15-16 weeks.
