Robert Dan Fesler, a native of middle Tennessee, was born in 1953, the son of a Southern Baptist minister and was influenced by his father's weekly presentations to groups. After High School, while working a full-time job, he started attending Middle Tennessee State University at night. During this period, he worked in an office which involved manual and computerized processing of invoicing, receivables, and payables. He also periodically worked with a professional accountant, spending approximately 2 weeks a quarter on his employer's books. He chose to major in accounting and graduated from MTSU in 1977. Approaching graduation, he had offers from three international accounting firms. After a stint in public accounting with what is now PriceWaterhouseCoopers,, he returned to MTSU where he earned an MBA degree. He was offered a position as an MTSU instructor. Colleagues on the faculty there emphasized the importance of earning a doctoral degree so he pursued/finished his doctoral degree at Mississippi State University in 1986. Dr. Fesler started as an Assistant Professor at TTU in fall of 1986. He worked his way up the ranks, serving as Chair of the TTU Accounting Department (2007 - 2013). In 2013 he returned full-time to the classroom where he now teaches financial & managerial accounting, and taxation. Dr. Fesler is always quick to communicate that he considers the TTU Accounting program the best in Tennessee.
