AI and Security

The Intersection of Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to revolutionize industries, its role in cybersecurity has become both a powerful tool and a growing challenge. At CEROC, we are at the forefront of exploring AI-driven security solutions while addressing the risks posed by adversarial AI techniques. Our research, education, and outreach efforts focus on leveraging AI to enhance cyber defense, detect threats in real time, and secure critical infrastructure against evolving cyber threats.

AI Security Introduction PictureAI-driven cybersecurity enables rapid threat detection through machine learning models that analyze vast amounts of network traffic, identify anomalies, and predict potential attacks before they occur. Our work in machine learning for security applications spans areas such as intrusion detection systems, malware classification, anomaly detection, and automated response mechanisms. By developing AI models that can adapt to changing cyber environments, we aim to improve the resilience of modern cybersecurity defenses.

However, with the rise of AI in security also comes the challenge of adversarial AI, deepfake threats, and automated cyberattacks. CEROC researchers are actively investigating techniques for defending against AI-driven attacks, securing AI models from data poisoning and adversarial manipulations, and ensuring the ethical and responsible use of AI in security applications. We also explore the intersection of AI and quantum computing, evaluating how quantum machine learning can enhance security capabilities while mitigating new risks introduced by quantum adversaries.

Through workforce development programs, industry collaborations, and academic research, CEROC is preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals to navigate the AI-driven security landscape. We provide students and professionals with hands-on training in AI-driven cybersecurity tools, engage in federally funded research projects, and contribute to policy discussions on AI security governance. Our mission is to not only harness AI for cyber defense but also to ensure that AI itself remains secure, ethical, and robust against emerging cyber threats.
